Trying to understand how slackpkg update works

This file (./xap/xscreensaver-5.29-x86_64-2.txz) is in

does not install it. I still have v. 5.22. I'm not whining -- I'm wondering what's up. And I'm willing to be patient.

slackpkg update is not supposed to install anything.

PS Also, check what mirror you uncommented: make that links to a mirror for Slackware64-current, as the FILE_LIST you linked to.

Excellent response, thanks! I only vaguely recall slackpkg -- after my install of 14.0, I don't think ever used it again. As I'm a computer user, not a computer hobbyist, I have an unfortunate tendency not to fuss with housekeeping. Slack is so solid and reliable that I can get away with that for long periods of time...lesson learned and appreciated. !!
