trying to install kde/desktop

Hey guys.
Im running slackware 10 kernel 2.6.9.

tring to install kde...
I downloaded the .tar.bz2 packages from the kde ftp. then i made a script to unpack and compile all the packages but it generate errors when the scripts try make install.
any help? any tutorial?

trying to install newest gnome version...
i did the same... i unpacked and installed the packages with no erros. but when i login into gnome i cant see my new desktop only a few programs have been updated.

Id apreciate any help.

get swaret, it dl ALL the latest packages for slack (if you change version to current) it should update gnome and kde for yah with lil to no effort, as well as everything else

I installed KDE by downloading the appropriate packages from the Slackware website and using pkgtool for installation.
I'm no expert, but I'm guessing it's better/easier to use the packages provided by Slackware.

I did it buy uninstalling kde first and then downloaded all the packages into a directory and ran "installpkg *.tgz".

Work without any problems.
