trying to install icewm

Just install slackware 10.2.

I did not want every wm or de available, so I chose a default wb called windows tap or something - I had to chose something.

I download icewm and followed the instructions.

If I run startx, I get the error the windowtab wm.

If I shutdown to the command line, and run icewm, I get the error that X must be running.

Also, I think it might want the gnome-desktop-2.0 library. I suppose I get that from the startup cd? I can seem to get the cd.

You have to create the file .xinitrc in your home directory. Add the line "exec icewm" or whatever the command to start icewm is. Then run startx. You can also add icewm to the system xinitrc, but I think it's easier to have .xinitrc in /home.

You can also skip a step by installing fluxbox. I think it's easier to configure than icewm.

Thanks for replying. Adding exec icewm to my .xinitrc file didn't help.

I have it. The trick was to shut down X, and run "xwmconfigue" then chose icewm.
