Trying to get audacity to run.

I am using Slackware 14.1 (64-bit) and have recently installed the 64-bit version of Audacity( found at this link: https://pkgs.org/), and trying to run it in terminal mode generates the following output:

bash-4.2$ audacity
audacity: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_richtext-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's because you're missing the dependencies for audacity, in this case, wxpython. I would not recommend using pkgs.org, precisely because it doesn't tell you what dependencies are required. It would be much better to learn how to use SlackBuilds... then you can use SBo (http://slackbuilds.org) to find programs, get their dependencies, and finally build and install the program. Once you're familiar with how to use SBo and the corresponding files it provides, then you can look into using one of the automated tools for SBo (but I would not recommend it until you have an basic understanding of SlackBuilds and how to use them.

If you just grab random packages from random places, you're likely going to constantly run into problems like this. And at some point, you'll probably run into two programs requiring different versions of the same dependency, since you're getting them from multiple sources as pre-compiled binaries. It really is best to just build them from your system and ensure you get all the dependencies prior to building.

You'll need the wxWidget Toolkit, http://wxwidgets.org: for Audacity versions less than 2.1.2, you'll need wxWidgets version 2.8.12; for Audacity version 2.1.2, you'll need wxWidgets version 3.0.2.

If you want a full studio audacity in 14.1 64 bit
here is the stuff I build
Code:
faad2
OpenAL
opencore
orc
opus
celt
openjpeg
dirac
dvdauthor
gavlz
gsm
soundtouch
ladspa_sdk
speex
lame
twolame
libass
libavc1394
libdc1394
libbluray
libdv
libiec61883
libilbc
libmodplug
libmp4v2
LibRaw
libvpx
vamp-plugin-sdk
wxPython
xvidcore
x264
swh-plugins

Step:2
faac
frei0r
schroedinger
jack-audio-connection-kit

remember to pass this on to the script VAR=yes/no ./ffmpeg.SlackBuild
I edit the options on in SBOPKG. to VAR=yes/no
ffmpeg-X-X?

Step:3
FFMPEG=yes
SOUNDTOUCH=yes (requires soundtouch)
TWOLAME=yes (requires twolame)
VAMP=yes (requires vamp-plugin-sdk)
audacity
Soundtouch has been broken in sbo for over a year.
because the repo has moved.
just google it and find the tar ball.
I get mine from fedora.
That audacity will do everything any studio can think of.
requires.
I can take any video or any media and extract sound
Just my build for media after that I can build many more multimedia
applications.
Just use this to make 3 SBO queues cust-audacity.sqf.
yo
