Trouble updating new 14.2 installation
I've installed millions of Slackware systems, but have run into a unique problem just now. After installing from the same 14.2 installation DVD as I've used half a dozen times in the past, I did:
slackpkg update It downloaded files, then ended with the error: ERROR: Verification of the gpg signature on CHECKSUMS.md5 failed! This could mean that the file is out of date or has been tampered with. I then did slackpkg update gpg and re-ran `slackpkg update`, but got the same error. I'm stumped! How can I get past this? |
I suspect a fouled/updating mirror.
Did you try a different one? |
it happens
transient mirror problem.
try again in a few hours. or try another mirror. |
I changed my mirror from http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackware/slackware64-14.2 to http://ftp.osuosl.org/.2/slackware/slackware64-14.2 and that worked. That's the first time that ever happened to me!

mirrors.slackware.com will try to find the closest mirror to you automatically. If that mirror is some how screwed up, then you could see the errors you show. For that reason, I tend to always specify a specific mirror.
If you're interested in finding what mirrors are fastest for you, I'll shamelessly plug my slack-mirror-speedtest.sh script. By default, it has the US mirrors pulled from slackpkg's mirror file, but you can replace those with any you might be interested in. |
That works great! Thanks.
