Trouble mounting windows shares with slackware using smb2/3

Greetings,

I'm a network admin working in a windows-centric AD environment. I'm running slackware 14.2 with all up to date patches, including kernel patches (4.4.132). I'm running the huge kernel.

Recently, group policy was implemented at the enterprise level to disable smb1 in my workplace. I can no longer mount windows shares with cifs on my slackware box. I've googled away, searched this forum, and still haven't been able to successfully mount a windows share with smb2 or 3.

Before going into the things I've tried and the associated error messages I've received I have one question.

I came across a fairly recent post where someone replied in order to mount a windows share using smb2/3 in slackware 14.2 the kernel needs to be recompiled with the following option:

CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 (File System > Network File Systems > SMB2 and SMB3 Network file system support) which enables support for SMB version 2,...

Can anyone confirm this for me.

Thanks

EDIT: Just looked through config-huge. CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 is not set. I'll have to enable that option and recompile.
