trouble installing slack
howdy!
not new to linux, but new to slack. seems like a nice geeky distro to chew on. :-) anyway, i downloaded 9, and the installer seems to be a big fun mess. my fstab has points mounted that i never defined, and the installer seems to make my cdrom hang quite a bit... had to ctrl+alt+del a couple of times now because it hangs pretty bad. my hardware is brandy new and i'm running 1 other linux distro on this box. anyone have any kernel boot parameters i might try to get this sucker to go a bit smoother? i really like the way slack looks and it's a shame i didn't dig into it earlier! sorry for the random/somewhat vague post... thanks! later -jeff |
Why not tell us what hardware you have, and what the computer will be used for. Then maybe we can help you through the install.

according to Hardware Lister (lshw), my system runs the following i mostly enjoy using my box for heavy compiling/programming... light on the desktop apps.... i'm just curious why the installer hangs so bad. *shrug* thanks again! happy hacking  |
I got the same problem, when am trying to boot the installer. I was doubted whether my download corupted. My hardware is not that new. My CDRW is Creative 8433E, mobo is asus tx97e, from a couple of years ago.
Ok, my experience is (can differs from yours): Normally ppl have to a hold certain key to force the compi to boot from CDROM. And as I tried to hold that key after it is prompted to do so, it is already too late. Just hold the key b4 the prompt for hold any key appears. But not too early to prevent u entering the cmos setting menu. It is realy that easy be me, hope that help .. |
