Trinity Desktop for Slackware(64) 14.1 + Multilib System

Hey! I recently got my build script completed for the Trinity Desktop on Slackware64 14.1, as the native desktop. If your interested you can download it and find instructions on my website at this URL http://www.inpito.org/trinity.php later.

Raveriux 08-28-2015 05:01 AM

Will the script be updated for r14 trinity desktop version?

Stragonian 08-28-2015 09:32 AM

I would hope so, but that would depend on the amount of time I would have to work on it. Between having a job, a non-profit organization to run, and working on other I.T. projects, like my true random number generator library called "libcorn", which is also available on the inpito website, and Linux, programming, and Blender classes I've agreed to teach through my non-profit, plus side jobs I have to do, because after you calculate the price of gas, and the amount the government takes out in of my check in taxes, I make about $4.13 per hour, at my job, and only have about $30 per week to live off of for food, soap, clothing, etc, so I have to take other side jobs when I find them. I guess you could say, I have a rather full plate, but I still try to help to advance the world of technology, when I can. - Yea, ... I try.

Trinity for Slackware is great news! Is -multilib required for compiling it?

Stragonian 08-28-2015 10:04 AM

I don't believe -multilib is required, but I've always added it before compiling Trinity, and my instruction show how "I" compile, and install it. So, Yea, if there is a step in the instructions you want to try to skip, give it try, who knows ... it may work for you. both - Raveriux and solarfields thanks for your questions.

solarfields - If you try compiling and installing it without -multilib and it works ... let us know, so we have a definite answer .... thanks.

how about the /usr/local symlink back to /usr?

is this required, or just your way of doing things?

Stragonian 08-28-2015 02:05 PM

I do the symlink to /usr/local to fix a large number of programs that have problems auto-configuring to find some library files in linux - currently I compile the following packages on Slackware 14.1 -

corn, random-verse, ivtv-utils, TiMidity++, eawpats, openssl, requiredbuilder, clamav, dmalloc, fontforge, qt3, jam, unrar, openoffice, smpeg, libmikmod, wxGTK, wxPython, wxX11, physfs, libmodplug, SDL_sound, dosbox, a52dec, valgrind, libdca, libebml, libmp4v2, faac, faad2, lame, libmspack, libmatroska, libmpeg2, mpeg2dec, STLport, vcdimager, libcdio # Repeat vcdimage compile, vcdimager, libdc1394, libavc1394, libdv, libdvdcss, libdvdread, libdvdnav, xvidcore, x264, openjpeg, orc, schroedinger, dirac, amrnb, amrwb, libvpx, rtmpdump, opencore-amr, gsm, openjpeg, frei0r, OpenAL, ffmpeg, gst-ffmpeg, libquicktime, mjpegtools, libdvbpsi, libfame, transcode, libshout, vde2, celt051, usbredir, acpica, libnfs, spice, rbd, libiscsi, seccomp, qemu, cfitsio, cppunit, gpac, aften, twolame, libmpcdec, mplayer-codecs, MPlayer, gmtk, gnome-mplayer, gecko-mediaplayer, dvdauthor, dv2sub, dvdisaster, vobcopy, videotrans, toolame, mctoolame, jack-audio-connection-kit, json-glib, lirc, libasyncns, json-c, pulseaudio, alsa-plugins, libiec61883, qdvdauthor, dvd-slideshow, libva, libvdpau, avidemux, openshot, kino, libsigc++, glibmm, cairomm, pangomm, atkmm, gtkmm, phpmyadmin, SDL_gfx, SDL_Pango, SDL_perl, freealut, audacity, frozen-bubble, supertux, supertux2, eduke32, eduke32_shareware_data, eduke32_hires_pack, extremetuxracer, freeciv, micropolis, plib, p7zip, irrlicht, supertuxkart, torcs, protobuf, ftgl, armagetronad, lincity-ng, gnuski, abe, prelink, opencl-headers, fuseiso, wine, libewf, testdisk, gparted, ntfsprogs, lib6502, quesoglc, warzone2100, soundtouch, aubio, libgnomecanvas, libgnomecanvasmm, liblo, liblrdf, scons, pptp, xine-plugin, grfbuilder, openttd, grfcodec, blender, bkhive, samdump, john, ophcrack, squashfs-tools, sword, bibletime, meterbridge, ladspa_sdk, guitarix, cabextract, wine-pipelight, webcore-fonts-installer, pipelight, minidlna, perl-xml-twig, skype, CImg, wxcam, wammu, wimlib, libpst, webmin, plexmediaserver, log4cpp, gst-python, pyxdg, gnonlin, pysetuptools, python-distutils-extra, gst-plugins-ugly, gst-plugins-bad, goocanvas, pygoocanvas, pitivi, ffms2, avxsynth, FreeImage, unshield, SDL2, bullet, ois, ogre, MyGUI, openmw, lua, vlc

Some of these programs I could get rid of, or replace with others, but once again ... time is needed. the symlink - is a quick way to fix the lack of auto-configuration in some of these programs. ... although most of them do OK.

Stragonian 08-28-2015 02:07 PM

thanks for the question :-) But to answer your question - the symlink from /usr/local back to /usr is the only way I've done it. so I come back to the same answer, if there is a step in the instructions you want to try to skip, give it try, who knows ... it may work for you.

Any chance of that being updated for 14.2... maybe start a new thread if it happens?

Stragonian 09-15-2017 05:42 PM

I do have a Slackware 14.2 build of trinity r14.0.3 ... I do need to set up some VM's to compile generic packages . ... If I get some time in the near future I will update the http://www.inpito.org/trinity.php page with Slackware 14.2 builds, source and scripts.

Stragonian 09-18-2017 05:41 AM

Trinity r14.0.3 (source, 32 bit, and 64 bit) should now be available for Slackware 14.2 @ http://www.inpito.org/trinity.php

dchmelik 09-18-2017 05:51 AM

Great, but that's a pretty old version; the stable version is 14.0.4 and even it is old. Would this be easy to modify: Installing TDE 14.0.4 on SlackwareArm Linux 14.2 ?

dchmelik 10-06-2017 02:55 AM

I'm going to try it anyway, but I have KDE5.

Would it even be that hard to alter its SlackBuilds up to 14.0.4... like isn't 14.0.4 stable...? I don't know, but at least it's not several years out-of-date...

Many thanks Stragonian. I've been wanting to see Trinity for some time even though Plasma isn't bad anymore because I always loved KDE3.x's direct , intuitive simplicity. I just have to give this a try. I use a root login at runlevel 3 and invoke "kdm" so I will not be using xwmconfig and will simply add it to kdm's selection menu.
