Once inetd.conf is cleaned up, I find it easier to just cd to /etc/rc.d and change the permissions on all the scripts that start unwanted services.

Of course, that really only applies when you install a bunch of services that shouldn't be there in the first place. There's no reason to have most of this stuff on a server that doesn't use it, so why not just unistall most of it and be done with it?
