Thunar file type

I have a problem with thunar.

It recognizes word files (.doc) files as 'plain text document' while other managers such as pcmanfm recognize the exact same document as 'Word document (application/msword).

I have crossover office installed, and this problem with thunar persisted after the upgrade from 4.4 to 4.6 using the RWorkman's binaries. If it plays any role I have the kde 4.2 from current installed.

Is there a way to reset the specific file type or all file types recognition under thunar?

right click the text document the left click open with . This will give you your options of what text utility to uses. but you must have the program installed. moused pad but if you did not install kde. then you would want to install koffice or open office or abiword etc etc.
if you want to keep your distro ligjht then use this slackware build for abiword

Thank you for your replay.

What you describe is a way to change the association of the file, that is the program to open this type of files.

The problem is that thunar is confused and treats word documents as plain text files. This means that I must associate all text files with abiword but I want to open with a different program the plain text files and the word documents.

Thank you very much for your help

It think you have the same problem I had. It was a problem of kde, not thunar. Take a look here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.p...568974#p568974
