Yup.

One employer [1000+ screens, Windows for Education, one building] uses some kind of network boot/wake on lan thing so the updates get done overnight and we come into computers that are switched on and logged out. Same for virus scans &c.

The other employer [500+ screens, loads of small buildings wide area network, Windows 7] has the caretakers go round and log in when they know there is a major update.

Now back on topic: Slackware 14.2 full install with xfce4 chosen in xwmconfig. I'm using the Xfce-flat theme in appearance. Does anyone know how to get the volume icon (bottom right of xfce4 panel) to have a black background and white speaker?

No, I'd like to know that too... I was using Xfce-flat but I installed Greybird from slackbuilds exactly because of this. Greybird theme has that volume icon correctly themed.

I'm going to throw Paper Mono Dark out there as an icon theme suggestion with Xfce Dusk. Best combination that I've come across for LXDE/Xfce. It would solve your volume icon problem. I'm pretty sure it's under paper-icon-theme on SBo.

Something a little more classic tonight...

In VBox inside Debian - my Slack 'testing ground'. I actually got Xfce looking halfway OK.

Hope you guys don't mind since I've already displayed my current desktop but I wanted to share something possibly trivial but that I still find myself using at least once a week. Back when KDE 4 came out the dev team heavily altered KPackage which upset me because in v3 KDE KPackage showed much more AND was compatible with Pkgtools, could install and uninstall right from an organized GUI. Now I realize I could just cat /var/log/packages but this screenshot puts it all in one windowed and tabbed organized whole and shows duplications if they exist and greenlights working libraries and redlights conflicts or broken links. In short it is for me the case of one picture being worth 1000 words. I get the old version to work on 14.2 Multilib by installing it and all of it's dependencies in "/opt/kde3/". Anyway here's a peek
