Somehow I like those plain old-style themes, but with a theme like yours and especially with that wallpaper i would go for less colorful icons and window-decorations.

it is a mixed up collection of icons, some from kde-2.x some from gnome-2.x

not sure if i can find any really old icons like from gnome-1.4 or kde-1.x those would give it a better retro look that i like

The folks at Gnome-Look.org have some retro style icon themes, like these:

Okie,

You indeed should slightly desaturate your icons, for example:

for file in *.png ; do convert $file -modulate 100,25 "${file%png}xpm" ; done

Do you have any issues with tint2 and xfce-power-manager / network-manager? Every time I come out of suspend my system tray icons shift over a notch and I get a blank space.. Apparently it's a known issue but I haven't gotten any of the fixes to work yet.

Haven't gone into suspend yet, I'll test it later and report back.

do you make your own window theme, desktop theme, icon theme, and color scheme?
Usually I'll start with one I find and then tweak it till its not really recognizable as the original anymore, so yes and no. You won't find many of my themes out there on the internet. I usually make my own wallpapers too.

I lost the whole system tray. Fortunately I don't use suspend that often.....

Edit: Hmm . . . I found a usr/share/icons folder. I bet they go in there. But I can't seem to get them extracted or do anything with them.

Untar the icon files to $HOME/.icons directory. If the .icons directory doesn't exist, create it first of course. To then change the theme, click on settings --> Appereance. Click on the Icons tab.
