Hey SlackD - I'm trying to get wbar to compile on 13.1 and not having much luck. Could you provide a copy of the patch that you mentioned in one of your posts?
Thanks. |

Thanks rockslinux!

So - I applied the patch, everything compiled without errors and it won't run. Trying as both root and user I get the "segmentation fault".
What do I look for to sort this out? |

Are you starting it with any options? I was running into exactly the same problem, and it turns out that using the -p flag caused a seg fault. Replacing it with -pos lets it run fine. Prior to using the patched version of wbar, -p worked fine. |
Starting with eithereoption gives the following:
root[~]# wbar -pos wbar: option '-pos' requires an argument Segmentation fault root[~]# wbar -p wbar: option '-p' requires an argument Segmentation fault This happens whether root or user. |
You're not paying attention to the error: the -pos flag requires an additional argument. Try this:
Code:
wbar -pos right Code:
wbar -pos right -vbar -bpress What seems to be happening is anytime wbar sees a command it doesn't like it seg faults. Not a particularly elegant way of handling errors if you ask me. <edit> check out wbar --help for all the startup options it understands </edit> |
Tried that also - same results.

Weird. The only thing I can think of is that your environment is significantly different from mine. I built wbar using the Slackbuild and all files from the link rockslinux gave. I'm running 64 bit 13.1 multilib with the huge.smp kernel (2.6.33.4). The other possibility is that if you've been installing this multiple times, there may be some conflicting files. It might be a good idea to try and completely uninstall, build from the Slackbuild and see if it works.

As you suggested, I un-installed everything, re-compiled and re-installed.
Success. Thanks for the help. |
One last question ( I hope ). How do I keep my apps from covering up wbar?
I read the pref file and didn't find anything that helps. |
The only option that looks like it might do that is -above-desk. I've never tried keeping it above the apps, so I don't have any practical advice.

Slackware 13.1, XFce 4.6.1. Pure Slackware goodness. :)
