What? You don't like my Xfce icons? Hmmmmph!

Heh!

And yes, beautiful is how I would describe that image... and tasteful, artistic, etc. To each their own, though.

To be honest with you, if my mother had wanted to be a nude model for some photographer or painter, well... so be it. It would not have been any of my business, really. I'm amazed at the prudishness of some in this community. Youthful, modern day, enlightened people are supposed to be a bit less tight-laced than folks from the 1950s. A simple Google search (even with the filters on) would produce any number of horrendously disgusting images. The one I posted here is art. Get over it already.

The image in question is not in any way NSFW or offensive.

You want offensive, to your sensibilities, watch some commercial, non-cable, over the airwaves TV. They show more nudity, aggressive, adult content than the image in question.

Let's not even start talking about real people you will see in public, like the mall or even Wal-Mart.

I admit I maybe jumped to the trigger a bit to soon (and too much (@vtel57: sorry! )), but a single word of warning could have saved the day for me ("artistic"? "body art"? "explicit"?)
Yes we live in a time of explicit "down to earth" pressure but that does not make it normal by just making it common place IMHO?
Or must some of us accept to have lesser rights (for peace of mind) than others?

I for one would be more against everyday 'normalisation' of violence than some innocent half-nudity.

There's nothing remotely pornographic about that image.

I wouldn't mind if links to images of violence had a warning too. It's just nice when they do: other people may be looking at the screen, and I want them to have a good time regardless of their biases.

Well, in the interest of peaceful interactions here at LinuxQuestions.org, I believe I will edit the original posting with the link and give some warning.

And SCerovec (and others), no need to apologize. We all react and feel as we do about certain things. I respect you for expressing your opinion.

Regards all...

pornography the depiction of erotic behavior, as in pictures or writing, intended to cause sexual excitement (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

pornography printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement (Oxford Dictionary)

pornography books, magazines, and films that are designed to cause sexual excitement by showing naked people or referring to sexual acts (Collins Dictionary)

1. Most of the definitions of pornography refer to the sexual excitement. I don’t believe someone felt sexual excitement watching the vtel57’s wallpaper though I could be wrong. On the other hand in some cultures every picture of a people is forbidden. If someone here lives in such a country and shares such an outlook I strongly recommend to him or to her to avoid all the western sites. From now on!

2. Let’s assume for a while that vtel57’s wallpaper is pornography. In such a case Venus de Milo is hot porn (you can see the breasts) and Venus of Willendorf is hard porn (you can see the the breasts and the vulva). But because both these sculptures are art then vtel57’s wallpaper isn’t pornography too.

3. Venus of Willendorf was made approximately in 22,000 BCE. Venus de Milo was made approximately in 100 BCE. Kama Sutra related traditional images and sculptures were made a few centuries ago. (If you don’t know: Kama Sutra is a religious text of Tantric Hinduism). Our times aren’t more explicit than the past times. There is only much more channels of distribution of information now and much more of information is in visual form now.

4. Jan Saudek, famous Czech photographer, depicts unattractive nude people. I would be proud to see the nude picture depicting my mother or my father (or both of them) made by him – my parents are over eighty years old so they’re sexually unattractive. (I’m sure there are more such a photographers but I don’t know the history of the photography well).

5. If someone here would like to continue the debate about pornography I ask him or her to start the new thread in the general section of the forum.

To me, picture in question was artistic and beutifull, but different oppinions should be allowd. I don't think this site is western site. It is devoted to free software that belongs to the world, not just western civilisation. Many non-westerners contribute to the free software and it would be polite to acknowledge their feelings regarding this question. Especially when it is not that big hassle.

Yep, add that too, apparently the list is growing long lately...

the problem lies in 'normalisation' of matters "not approved over time (="tradition")"

How come I see no compiz/beril/fusion cubes globes gears? Slackware lacks performance lately?

Slackware's performance is more than sufficient, but that's no reason to squander it on trivial fluff.

Won't speak for anyone else, but the novelty of fancy gimmicks and special effects wore off here long ago. A nice wallpaper is more than enough window dressing for me.
