this doesn't look like a tar archive

Tried to decrompress kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz.tar and it said it didn't look like a tar archive. I downloaded it from slackware. When you mouseover the link it says its a tgz file but when you download it its a tar file. The file is not on the iso CD. It doesn't even have a kernel/k dir. Thanks in advance.

Hi!
Did you try the "installpkg" (or "upgradepkg") command? If you downloaded a slack package this is the way to install it.

I bet it's how you saved it, or how the browser saved it. You might have to:

Code:

mv kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz.tar kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz

then from there run

Code:

installpkg kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz

or 

upgradepkg kernel-source-2.4.20-noarch-5.tgz

Thanks guys. I saved it with Firebird in WindowsXP then moved it to linux. Gonna try this now. Thanks again.

Yea.. I get that all the time trying to download stuff in windows. Ussually it will save it as a tar.tar... I can understand IE doing that but firebird? Weird...
