thinkpad T61 fingerprint reader without PAM

Hi

Is there a way to use the fingerprint reader on the Lenovo Thinkpad T61 on Slackware without using PAM?

I know of the "thinkfinger", which uses PAM, but anything like that for non-PAM distros would be nice.

I would like to use it to log in to my account when booting (shell) and to access the root account (also in shell).
I'm using fluxbox and don't need it to start/login to that.

Is it possible to use it to login to my admin panel on my intranet page as well? That is, integrate it with apache/php some sort of plugin. (with/without PAM)

If it's not possible (using the fingerprint reader) without PAM, where should I start to integrate PAM with Slackware?

Thank you

You could install dropline-gnome (I think they introduce PAM
to Slack), or if you'd rather stay clear of Gnome, use this
as a rough guide ...

Cheers,
Tink
