Hi,

I'm not sure whether following method help or not.
Please try to add options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad
to your modprobe.conf.

(reference)
alsa-1.0.14 Documentation (ALSA-Configuration.txt)
Code:

  Module snd-hda-intel
  --------------------

    Module for Intel HD Audio (ICH6, ICH6M, ESB2, ICH7, ICH8),
                ATI SB450, SB600, RS600,
                VIA VT8251/VT8237A,
                SIS966, ULI M5461

model        - force the model name
    position_fix - Fix DMA pointer (0 = auto, 1 = none, 2 = POSBUF, 3 = FIFO size)
probe_mask  - Bitmask to probe codecs (default = -1, meaning all slots)
single_cmd  - Use single immediate commands to communicate with
                codecs (for debugging only)
enable_msi        - Enable Message Signaled Interrupt (MSI) (default = off)

This module supports one card and autoprobe.

Each codec may have a model table for different configurations.
If your machine isn't listed there, the default (usually minimal)
configuration is set up.  You can pass "model=<name>" option to
specify a certain model in such a case.  There are different
models depending on the codec chip.

...
          Model name        Description
          ----------    -----------
        AD1984
          basic                default configuration
          thinkpad        Lenovo Thinkpad T61/X61

I wish to say that it helped, but it doesn't
Anyway thanks for an effort
Thx

H_TeXMeX_H 06-25-2007 11:47 AM

Did you run 'alsaconf' ? The module seems to be loaded just fine.

Nikosis 06-25-2007 12:47 PM

Yes I did, maybe it's something with alsa drivers-1.0.11, I'll try to update to alsa-1.0.14a and we'll see.
What about wireless, still doesn't work, I'll give a shot ndiswrapper and iwlwifi from the source.
Hope everything will be fine, but in the mean while any suggestions are more than welcome

Thx

Nikosis 06-26-2007 12:09 AM

Doesn't help at all, still no sound, anybody has any idea what is wrong.

thx

Yalla-One 06-26-2007 07:47 AM

Hi,

I don't know about the sound problem since the sound chip has changed from the T60 to T61.

However, for the wireless network - which version of the kernel are you on?
I can't see any of the required modules or information from the kernel .config I sent you - did you make a lot of changes? Did you get the SlackBuild I sent you to compile and did you install it properly?

Cpoc 06-26-2007 10:16 AM

I beleive the sound chip is currently not supported in alsa as of yet.

This is what thinkwiki is reporting.
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T61
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1984

I'm sure that with the next release of alsa it should be supported.

I do plan to buy this laptop as well. I just like the Thinkpad's for their build quality. I still use my 1996 Thinkpad 600. It's really slow to run X on but I mainly use it for ssh stuffand I don't mind it getting beat up. It's built like a tank and you can still get batteries for it. I beleive this was the firt model the was fully supported under linux from IBM.

Cpoc 06-26-2007 10:19 AM

There seems to be a patch out there that adds support to this soumd chip. Let us now how this turns out.

Hi J_W,

I've browsed the 2.6.22rc6 source and the latest ALSA-package from alsa-project.org, and clearly must be missing something, because I fail to find where the reference to the Thinkpad T61/X61 are made.

I'm afraid that the obvious answer is that I missed something fundamental, but since I just double-checked again it looks like I'll need some help tracking this one down :-)

Hi,

ALSA-Configuration.txt is in alsa-driver-1.0.14/alsa-kernel/Documentation/ALSA-Configuration.txt

Can you post the output from dmesg ?
Also - do you get any error messages when you run alsactl?

PS. Did you get the other parts of your laptop working, such as the wireless card etc?

I also found something like this
"It turns out that the problem lies with the mixer. While there isn't aproper patch, I determined that constantly emitting a tone from the PCspeaker will at least allow the speakers to work (line-out will notwork, unfortunately). Read the comments in the attachment for more info. :) t61_audio_hack.py"
Unfortunatlly that doesn't work

Thanks for help and I hope we solve this problem rather soon than later
Ps. No, I did not get wireless work s yet, still working on it

I feel your pain. I have the T61 and have been wrestling with the sound and wireless both. I have the wireless working but it is buggy. Wpa_supplicant will not connect either but it will work with WEP. I upgraded to kernel 2.6.21 and used iwl4965 module and mac80211. For the sound, I installed latest ALSA to no avail. On a better note, the Nvidia video is awsome. For now I am using proxim(pcmcia) with madwifi driver for wifi. Better card anyway. If I should get more working I will post.
