heh, I check the site a lot as well. I bet I could mangle up some python to check the changelog every 5 min or so, then send a txt msg to my phone when there is an update.
I will be the first to know and the rest of you will have to wait 30, maybe even 6o minutes before you find out. bwahahahahaha

Well it turns out this was really easy to do with PHP and an account to http://www.tm4b.com.
removed code for the sake of Pat's bandwidth
I purchased 20 credits so if any one would like to a txt msg sent to their phone when the changlog is updated, send me an email. If more then 20 people respond, you will either need to set it up yourself, or perhaps paypal me $0.50 or something. It would probably be better if a bunch of people arn't running the script at once.
I also wouldn't mind working out some kind of community based system where people that are interested can log into my account tm4b, add some credits, then get their number on the "allert" list. This way not a lot of people are hammering Pat's bandwidth.
let me know if anyone is interested.
regards,

**edit**
btw, I just threw this code together real quick, so you should possibly check it before deploying it on a production server. Any and all GPL disclaimers apply.
**changelog**
09.28.06 Slackcheck-1.1
- Fixed bug to copy Changelog.new over Changelog.old when a change is found
- moved wget command to beginning of loop instead of the end so it will check the difference imidiatly instead of waiting 10 mins.
- added more descriptive comments

Changelog update
Quote:
Thu Sep 28 03:33:49 CDT 2006
ap/vorbis-tools-1.1.1-i486-3.tgz: Fixed UTF8 support.
Thanks to Igor Pashev for providing a simple patch from Gene Pavlovsky.
kernels/huge26.s/*: Added support for USB and IEEE1394 storage devices.
kernels/test26.s/*: Added support for USB and IEEE1394 storage devices.
Thanks to Tais M. Hansen for pointing out that these kernels lacked support for USB storage devices. Using these kernels with udev may cause a few warnings at boot time as udev attempts to load the already built-in support, but these seem to be harmless.

Once again:
- I bet that he is waiting for vista to compete with.
Pat: next time you should try choosing a stronger competitor

oops, sorry to those of you that got 2 text msgs when the changelog was updated. I forgot to coppy Changelog.new over Changelog.old after an update. I turned it off for the time being, but I will update it when I get home. (my phone doesn't have curly braces, so it's a pain to update code). I'm aslo going to rearange it a bit so so you can get the msg a whole 10 min earlier. Every minute counts!

This waiting for 11 is getting quite funny, you know. I'm starting to tell my parents: "Yes, I'll clean my room as soon as Slackware 11 is out."

Kind of disturbing that no one noticed that the 2.6 kernels didn't have USB storage support. Are we really that close to 11 if something as major as that doesn't work? I guess the idea is that since 2.6 isn't default, anyone who was going to use 2.6 could compile it themself anyway, because I know at least for the the 2.6 kernel that comes with 10.2 wouldn't recognize my PS/2 mouse. Anyway, hoping for tomorrow... I guess it's possible it could come out any second now.

I just updated the changelog monitor script, for those of you who want to know right away. Just look at the changelog on my post to see what I changed.
