I haven't noticed.. any particular packages, or the core system itself?

There are some SDL issues and pango(and lots of things use pango) issues, which are also reported on this forum somewhere too.

Installing SUSE gives warning's and a how-to disable pango, just before it get's into X for the first time.

I'm not convinced the pango issue is just slack issue for whatever it's worth.

Running current as of todays date.

What instabilities?

I have noticed none. Zero. Zip.

You maybe referring to a 'update' to current, but a clean current install is as stable (IMO) as 10.2

As far as pango and sdl, I have no issues. Heck, java is even working 'straight out of the box', as is the KWeather applet, which I never got working in 10.2

Ditto!
I have a clean current install on my laptop and a 10.2 install upgraded to current(via swaret) on my desktop. I use both of these machines for everyday desktop/workstation computing tasks. I haven't experienced anything unstable.

Most of the 'current' issues I've seen stem from using tools like swaret et. al. to 'update/upgrade'. It can be a mess if you use them, do to config files, other program dependencies, etc.

As I said, mine is a clean install, at it seems as rock solid as anything Pat has ever put out....

I think I saw slackware running on an abacus once.

Here's a link: http://www.learningwithtoys.com/meli...oug_abacus.htm
That abacus doesn't have the power to run Slackware. You need a soroban

I was browsing DistroWatch and noted their rather handy table of previous release dates. A quick session in OpenOffice Calc revealed that there is an average of 8.44 months between releases, starting with Slackware 4.0 back in May 1999.

10.2 was released on 13th September 2005 - say no more...

Recently I have been having slow(er) response times to ftp.slackware.com.

Maybe the .iso's are on the way to the mirrors...

I _highly_ doubt that. I am getting the exact same response times, and if the isos were getting mirrored, then we would be able to download them too. (that's just the way pat does it)

Pat runs a business and needs to sell disks to buy food.
The popularity of Slackware on charts like on Distrowatch is cyclic with releases and is tailing off quite badly now. Too long a gap between releases is bad news for the long term future of Slackware.

the lag is probably due to the users' downloads of the kde updates which hit -current a couple days ago... the storm will pass, don't worry...

Slack 11

Received a reply to an e-mail from slackware themselves and apparently available for purchase in 2 weeks time. My order already in.

Just idle curiosity but how does Pat make any money from his releases if as soon as it's available for purchase someone posts the ISOs on tinternet for download???
