I am sure this has been asked before, is Pat going to use 2.6 when slackware11 is released??? it is still in testing in the slackware-current and it looks like slackware11 will be released soon.

I would say yes. There should be more information on their website regarding the new release. The 2.6 kernel has been out for quite sometime.

As I recall, the changelog for 10.2-current said that the next version would be based on 2.6.

Well, the Original Poster for one, he wouldn't have asked the question otherwise, would he?

Reading the changelog might give you some clues, ultimately only Pat knows, if 2.6 appears in -current as the default kernel before the release of 11 then all bets are on that 2.6 is going to be the default in 11.

Bottom line, keep an eye on the changelog for -current

but what about udev problems? As far as i know, it will need at least udev-0.71 or greater to make udev works (replacing hotplug) and in -current, the latest udev packages was still 0.64

Obviously if the next version of Slackware is shipping with 2.6, it would include whatever udev was required.

Or it would put udev in /testing if the latest versions were not deemed up to snuff by Pat.

Just curious, does anybody know when the next version of Slackware will be available(approx.)? I know that only Pat knows but maybe someone out there has an inside tip.

i compile my own kernel also. i do have production boxes that are still running the 2.4 kernel. i would like to upgrade those with a 2.6 kernel that is OFFICIALLY supported by slackware (Pat).

Anyone have an estimate on when the next release for Slack will be ?? ... (I've got an extra 120gig drive waiting patiently)

On a side note .. I was wondering just how many people contribute to the Slackware project ??
(I know Suse and Fedora must have hundreds of developers at any one time)

Last I checked there is no schedule and people usually don't know with any true degree of accuracy.

Several hundred might be a little high for "offical" developers. But probably close.

anyway why do we need a slack 11... its not like windows with linux is it... like there is a program out there that says it needs slack 11 for it to run...
