Indeed... Pat chose to embbed bash instead of ash in the 14's installer.

I am happy of that decision as I am heavily using the syntax MsG+=<new string appended to $MsG>. Very handy to surround by double quotes a string internationalized with eval_gettxt to be used as an argument of a dialog's option and progressively build the list of arguments.

But, well, if people are still interested in getting a full-unicode Slackware, I can nevertheless begin a dedicated thread. :)

Yes please! I am very interested and guess that I am not alone.

Yes, I thought the things in this way. Slackware is a conservative distro, that's a fact (which is sometimes good, and sometimes bad). You would IMHO have more weight to change things with a functional and popular project. Good luck. ;)

Thanks. About Slackware being conservative, IMO one of the reasons is that Slackware is maintained by a very small team, eager not to degrade the level of quality of the distribution. So, before they can accept a proposed change they have to make sure that they can devote the time and resources needed to perform associated quality control and maintenance. And of course make sure first that this change is worthwhile and won't break anything. This is why it takes time to introduce innovations in Slackware.

For the time being I am internationalizing the installer.

When it's done I will test it without any localization and maybe request more tests from volunteers.

Then I will localize it into French and provide documentation about how-to localize it in other languages (European ones to begin with, as you suggested).

The result will be provided as a localized installer in a way yet to be determined.

Of course all that assumes that I won't find show stoppers on that path ;)

I am eager to receive comments about this plan, from you and from other readers.

The bat is open, testers and translators wanted

The slint (for SLackware INTernationalization project is launched).

If you want to participate, please see this post and preferably post your questions and remarks in that other thread.
