The reason I use slackware
To all my fellow conspiracy theorists out there, if the underlying subject matter of this article does not sum up the real reason why I came to Linux I don't know what else does.
http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/may2006/tc20060531_497986.htm?chan=technology_technology+index+page_more+of+today's+top+stories
It's such a contradiction in terms, "Microsoft Sweeps Into Security" and later to talk about there next OS.
Some one please explain to me WHY would anyone say, "yes I'm going to get the next version of Windows, and Microsoft already knows it's going to be full of holes, but they got me covered to a certain degree for another 50-60 BUX more! "
Has this world gone insane. And the press thinks this is good! And Wall Street Loves It!
Look at the amount of money these people are all making for, well (pause) doing nothing right! Since when does making something bad entitle you to get an 'extra'
I'm so mad ....I gotta go kick a puppy or something, bye for now LOL (just kidding animal lovers).

people are creatures of habit, and they also tend to be lazy. that turns out to be good news
for companies like microsoft. once they get their hooks into the average consumer, the poor
person is usually stuck for years, if not life, just on the inertia alone (too hard to learn
something new, not even *aware* that there's something else, etc.) so like they say, "a fool
and her money are soon parted," and therefore microsoft is in the business of creating fools.

It's really sad, and it also pisses me off, but i also feel ok when i remember the saying: "You get what you deserve". I understand the need for a complete retard-proof linux distro, however there are close attemps, i haven't tried them, but pc-bsd (yup, not linux) is really easy. But i guess everybody will just go ahead and buy vista and pay for "security services" (lol).

LOL those comments are funny and true, and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one out there who's had this 'epiphany'
for my operating system choice.
There's an old saying "If a dog bites you in the A$$ it's the dog's fault, ...but if he bites you twice, ...then it's your fault!"
And that's what I think really sum's it up for me. I've been through this marketing, upgrading, patching, and PURCHASING schema
way too many times now. I've let the dog bite my butt way too many times.
I'm tired of hearing the next is better, the next is more secure, and you'll be able to work faster and end world hunger.
Then maybe after 6 months they figure out the major bugs. By about a year later I finally get all my other third party
programs working and about a year and a half all my external devices work.
If Microsoft was a contractor that you hired to work at building you a new home, you would have 'Kicked him off the job"
and got a new contractor! Why do people treat this any differently.
There's a radio talk show personality named Michael Savage, he sums up people's stupidity really well. He calls them
"SHEEPLE" like sheep-people combined you know. It's so true. They just go along with the crowd.

Are you referring this Michael Savage?
Interestingly enough, the urban dictionary describes sheople thus;
Quote:
sheople
People who are unable to think for themselves and simply follow the crowd.
Rush Limbaugh fans are sheople.

from here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...m=linux&page=3
that used to be a great site when it first started, as with wikipedia. a shame they let any 'foo' type in these thingies.
