Angry The mouse still won't scroll!

Having a little trouble getting the ol' mouse to work properly in Slackware 9.0. (this is my first encounter with Linux by the way - and LOVING it). While I can manage without it, I'm REALLY missing the scroll function.

I've added the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" to /etc/X11/XF86Config under the Mouse section...but, NO GO.

Anyone else solved this problem in 9.0?

Thanks

PS - I can't TAB out of this box; I have to click outside to SUBMIT...is that fixable?

What's your rodent's type set to?
IMPS/2?

I can <TAB> & <ENTER> :}
Maybe your Ctrl-key is stuck?

Cheers,
Tink

Getting the scroll to work

Here is the InputDevice for my setup.

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

BTW where I got hung up for the longest time in getting my scroll mouse to work was the line

Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"

Thanks a MILLION guys. Especially bunhead...I just copied your settings, CTRL+ALT+BKSPC and I'm in business now!!

And...as for being able to TAB...I can TAB...and yea, CTRL works. I'm typing in the dialog box now...in Windows (I even hate saying the word) I hit TAB and it takes me out of the dialog box down to SUBMIT REPLY. Is this possible in Linux? I'm POSITIVE it is...maybe a Key-combo or setting change?

I'm using Konqueror...might be the answer there. I'll try Mozilla and see.

How about checking one of the MANY THREADS ON THIS SAME TOPIC. Damnit, the search is there for a REASON.

My first disgruntled reply so far...darn, and I was just telling one of the other good-hearted members how impressed I was with the members here and their ability to overlook stuff like that.

For what it's worth...I DID search for what my initial post was about, but could not get the mouse scroll to work. I tossed the TAB question in just as a side note if someone new how to fix that up while helping with the mouse. I'll search for that now.

Thanks guys

If you DID search the forum, then you should tell people that, since there always seem to be 2 or 3 scroll mouse threads on the first page. You're setting yourself up to be yelled at when you just post another scroll mouse thread. In the future it would be better if you said something like, "I have searched the forum, and tried this, that, etc.".

1) It will keep you from getting yelled at for posting what appears to be just another "scroll mouse" thread.

2) It will let everyone know what you have tried so that you don't get people suggesting that you try things you've already done, and will likely get your problem solved faster.

That's cool man. I just assumed by letting people know that I had already tried added the ZAxisMapping option they'd realize I had tried to search. But...I usually always search (the forums and Google) before I post, I'll just make sure everyone knows that from now on.

Thanks

Just as an update...the TAB problem must have been in Konqueror...I've got most of my plug-ins updated in Mozilla and the TAB function works just FINE!

See...I'm doing it now!
