Hmmmm RadicalDreamer that might hold a clue. My .sh does have the lines to create a log file but there is none in my FeralInteractive directory. It may simply be that it crashes far too quickly to write one but I'm going to follow up to see what I can discover.

Sorry I forgot about the CPU Governor thing. I just ignored it since I'm locked in to a healthy overclock and default to "Performance" governor. No way is that an issue for me. FWIW the later release, "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" benchmark shows that at or near Ultra settings on everything I am 99% GPU bound. My CPU ROCKS!

Try
Code:

FERAL_LOG_TO_FILE=1 %command%
in Launch Options in Steam.

Nvidia has released a BETA version of their next driver series.

The 470.42.01 driver (beta) download link and a long, long list of "release highlights" can be found at,

https://www.nvidia.com/download/driv...x/176525/en-us

Installation instructions can be found under the heading, "Additional Information" at the above link. Under that same heading you can find detailed installation instructions by clicking on "README."

Edit in: Installed on this box with the 5.12.12 kernel and is working perfectly...... so far..... :)

This is actually a "huge" beta. It is supposed to let you game with hardware opengl and vulkan acceleration using xwayland with nvidia gpu. Also, 470 series will supposedly be last Kepler supporting Nvidia proprietary driver series and eventually a new legacy driver series.

Regnad Kcin 06-23-2021 12:04 AM

Yes this is the one we have been waiting for. I will try wayland again.

biker_rat 06-23-2021 02:52 PM

I think we need xwayland git to make the hardware acceleration work.

In fact, probably you will need the Xorg GIT for those NVidia things, because they aren't merged yet on the stand-alone XWayland branch.

See this PR for details:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/...e_requests/679

EDIT: Ooops! They did it 9 hours ago, so you are right.

The latest version of my nvidia-legacy390-{kernel,driver} SBo scripts are on my page. The kernel script now has a patch for the 5.13 kernel (in case you missed it, the 5.12 kernel patch went up last month).

http://www.lenardspencer.net/linux/slackbuilds

As soon as the 470 driver comes out of beta I will post it as well. (Unless you want it NOW)

enorbet 06-23-2021 09:34 PM

I'm not interested in trying out Wayland just yet. IMHO it is a wise project but it has a long way to go to do the stuff I want to do, especially gaming. That new 470 beta driver is superb though!!!

I installed it on up-to-the-day Current on a 5.12.12 kernel from runlevel 3 which went without a hitch. The integrated benchmarking tool in 2018's "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" despite it's age is a very powerful and GPU intensive test. For example my GTX 1070 Ti (pretty heavily overclocked) in an i5-10600K @ 5.0 GHz, tests out as 99% GPU bound!!! However, and after 5 tries to insure no flukes, my average FPS went from 91 to 99 at near Ultra settings at 1440p. That's just shy of a 10% improvement for a fairly long intensive test and I'm impressed!

I used the LuckyCyborg link above to get source code& the slackware64 official slackbuild to make updated xwayland 21.1 package & was able to play dhewm3/doom3 in slackware64-current startkwayland desktop with GTX780 card & Nvidia 470 beta. Windowed mode only , fullscreen gave black screen.

Edit: Tried it successfully with Darksiders III from epic store using legendary-gl/alienBOB's wine today. Again I needed windowed mode or black screen. Borderless windowed mode also seems to not work.

Regnad Kcin 07-08-2021 04:24 PM

The 470.42.01 works just fine with the snappy new 5.13.1 kernel. I still haven't gotten around to trying Wayland, though.

cwizardone 07-19-2021 10:26 AM

Nvidia's "Latest Production Branch" Driver, Version: 470.57.02, has been released.

A long list of "release highlights" and a download link can be found at,

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driv...x/177145/en-us

Installation instructions can be found under the heading, "Additional Information" at the above link. Under that same heading you can find detailed installation instructions by clicking on "README."

Edit in: This latest driver will not build with the 5.14.y kernel series.

jkh2cpu 07-19-2021 12:43 PM

The 470.57.02 version builds and runs with Slackware64-current, using the 5.13.2 Kernel.

A new version (144) of the legacy 390 series driver is available.
This one works with the 5.13.x kernels.

Awesome. :hattip:

Lenard Spencer 07-21-2021 02:21 AM

New SBo scripts for nvidia-{kernel,driver}-470.57.02 and nvidia-legacy390-{kernel.driver}-390.144 are up on my server. The kernel scripts include patches for the upcoming 5.14 kernel.

As always, please let me know if you have any problems.
