the 2.6.10 under /testing

I installed 10.1 on a new box today, no problems with installation as usual!

The problem is that i want to build the 2.6.10 kernal, but when i looked under testing 2.6.10 it was full of lots 'source' and 'module' tars not just one large bz2.

i would usually just download a patch or the full version off kernel.org......so errr how do i here?

one other thing is the /usr/src normally empty in a new install? the only thing i have in it a 'rpm' directory. i would of thought the base 2.4.x needed to be in their with a sym link to /usr/src/linux , i used the standard kernal when i installed it today.

thanks

The one in testing is already compiled and configured, just have to download the kernel-generic, kernel-modules, kernel-source and installpkg them. If you want to configure the kernel so you don't have extra options built in, its much easier to just download the tarball from kernel.org.

If you decide to install the packages from testing, take a look at:
ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar.../README.initrd
and

well...i guess you just didn't install the sources.
and, as said, it's easier to download a kernel from kernel.org.

you can extract it anywhere you want ( i allways use my ~/ ),
and don't bother making a symlink /usr/src/linux : you don't need it.
