TexLive package in "current" (possibly stable, too) How to administer it?

No more tlmgr, or anything.

How do I install new LaTeX packages?
Is the newest version of TexLive also lacking in that department? Or is this some Slackware specific thing?
If it's just a Slack thing then I'll just go back to the iso release of TL, or something.

Tlmgr was never part in texlive on SBo, nor packaged for slackware in -current.
What you get is the compiled binaries from Pat + a "ctan snapshot"(currently from 2017-11-08), what's not included in texlive(base) in -current can be installed from SBo.

I'm not sure what you mean, texlive 2017 is packaged in -current and in sync with SBo.
