Test kernel 2.6.15.6- How to check this kernel is installed

Dear All,

I downloaded laterly the slackware 10.2 test kernel of 2.6.15.6 from ftp://mirrors.dotsrc.org.
After the kernel and module's being nstalled by intallpkg utility which stated in README.initrd in the same directory, what happens is that:
#cat /proc/version still echo 2.4.31

I've check with #ls -l /boot and figured out that the links all fixed to the newly installed module.
and so I got no idea what had happened.

It is simply a irrelavant bug or i have not got the kernel correctly loaded. Or I need some other idea to check out the kernel version besides #cat /proc/version.
