Do you have either version 2.7.0 or 2.8.0 (although I'd strongly recommend the former as 2.8.0 breaks a lot of stuff. You'll have to find lm_sensors 2.7.0 as well as I don't think lm_s 2.8.0 will work with i2c 2.7.0) of i2c compiled and running before you attempt to compile lm_sensors? If you don't, the compilation of lm_sensors will fail. I got caught by that once here on Gentoo as i2c wasn't explicity defined as a dependency by the lm_s ebuild and so compilation of lm_s would crash and burn until I twigged and emerged i2c.
