targz install HOW ?????


How to install a tar.gz package ??? I only know how to install a tgz page.

Please help

tar zxvf xxxxxx.tar.gz
cd xxxxxx
./configure
make
su
make install

This may vary depending on the actual package you want to use.
Read the README and/or INSTALL files that are in the package for more details.

Instead of 'make install' consider checkinstall. It does all that 'make install' does but also produces a Slackware package for easy upgrade and removal.

You can also change the name to something.tgz and then use installpkg

Simply changing the suffix to .tgz is not going to make a directory full of source code into an installable Slackware package.

The post doesn't say whether it's a source code package or binary. Even if it's source code pkgtool will be able to uninstall it.
