Sounds more like a new developer. :)

Well, so far the only commit on github apart from the initial check-in is a change to the readme soliciting for donations via paypal or patreon. Colour me sceptical, but IMO that's a bad way to start.

Really? There is someone/something else other than Slackware which still use SYSV INIT? :D

Its retirement on github say: nope.

Gordie 01-10-2018 10:31 AM

The same Jesse Smith as from Distrowatch?

There's more than one implementation of sysvinit.

About a quarter of all linux distributions still use sysvinit.

Yes

IIRC Slackware uses a blend of SysVinit and BSD init, right? Was it the previous maintainer or this new one that seems poised to launch OpenRC which is also a bit of a blend, no?

rworkman 01-15-2018 11:35 PM

Slackware uses System V init - it just does so in a BSD *style*

development happens here:
http://git.savannah.nongnu.org/cgit/sysvinit.git/
and there was at least some source code change

GazL 01-16-2018 05:12 AM

Yes, but my comment was in context to the github repos that the OP linked: https://github.com/slicer69/sysvinit

edit:

That repos now has this comment:
Quote:

Update: The contents of this repository have all been merged back into the official upstream SysV init repository on Savannah. This repo should not be usd for new development as the latest source code for init can be found here: https://savannah.nongnu.org/git/?group=sysvinit

So it seems that it is just noise and should be ignored.
