System tray not loading

Hi all, I did not experiment with the recent Slackware-current for a while. Today I tried to install a fresh copy of Slackware current and after the clean system booted my system tray in Plasma5 reported an Error - no system tray available.

How stable is the current ISO image? Last time when I installed (sometime in dec 2020) all was working fine in plasma 5. Did anyone else experience similar issues? I never had such troubles with Slackware earlier.

Edit: just an additional info... I used this image https://slackware.nl/slackware/slackware64-current-iso/ and I noticed that some package at the beginning of full install throws and error(some command not found I think), not sure which package it is it's rolling too fast. I am also not sure if the end result could be caused by this.

I would try an update/Upgrade-all/install slackware64 (without 64 if it's 32bits) via slackpkg to try fixing or see the error in logs.

Be sure you have the corresponding current mirror uncommented in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors

Hi,

I did a fresh & default install with :
Code:
slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso	2021-03-06 21:15 3.2G
MD5 :
Code:
# md5sum slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso
58b11b0aa0f91f000421d03a4a99a5fa slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso
https://slackware.nl/slackware/slack...ent-iso/MD5SUM

Without any issue

Have you checked if your md5 is correct ?

The checksum is ok and the iso looks the same as yours:
Quote:
md5sum -c MD5SUM.txt
slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso: OK
3.2G Mar 6 21:39 slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso
58b11b0aa0f91f000421d03a4a99a5fa slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso
Additionally I downloaded this iso from 2 different sources and installed a clean system twice with same result.
Since I didn't have much time to experiment and the laptop is fairly old hardware I installed Slackware 14.2 on it, which works fine.

Maybe it's HW specific, I am not sure. When you say "without any issues" - you mean you started up Plasma 5 and the system tray was working fine? Or you just mean that the install process was successful?

Yes, I mean the install process was successful and plasma is working as expected (login, taskbar, systray etc ...)

Are your sure about your environment (32b vs 64bits) ?

I am also having a similar issue: after upgrading a clean virgin 14.2 directly to -current, KDE system tray displays:
Quote:
Sorry! There was an error loading
where the tray icon should be on the panel. This is an honest full install from scratch, new user, no baggage.

Upgrade, not a clean install? In that case maybe some old KDE4 packages remain and interfer with -current's Plasma 5? I remember when Pat added Plasma to /extra/vtown he worte in the changelog:
Quote:
To install the vtown packages, first you'll want to remove any KDE4
packages (the KDE and KDEI series in the main tree), any previous ktown packages
from alienBOB, and then install all of the packages in vtown/deps and vtown/kde
using upgradepkg --install-new.

This may be it. In the meanwhile, I installed clean from a recent Alien Bob's liveslack, and it worked like a charm
