System Mail not working on slackware 9.1

On my slackware 9.1 system, the internal mail system does not seem to work. I think I need to set something up, but I don't know what.

I don't have the command "mail" that I have had access to on other systems, and I can't find where to download it.

I don't get any system messages via email, such as outputs from cron.
My computer is not connected to a network, I just want to be able to recieve the outputs from cron mailed to root.

Any help would be appreciated

Looking at my system, it appears that the mail command is a symlink to /usr/bin/nail which is provided by the nail package

I think you will still need an mta running as well. Sendmail being the default on Slackware. Seems heavy duty for local messages, but you need a transport agent of some kind.
