system hangs just after post

ive installed slackware 10.0 twice now, and ive been getting the same problem. basically, just under the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" line, all i get is "LI_" with a blinking underscore, and it stops there. also, i didnt get to make a boot floopy as i didnt have a fdd connected when i was doing the installs.

ive had some experience with redhat, but never had a problem like this so please word any suggestions with that in mind

one other thing, on my second install attempt, i pretty much followed h**p://w**.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&postid=852138 . just added x and gnome packages.

pc specs:

p2 350
msi mobo
gf2mx
intel lan
fortissimo2 snd card

hhd1: 3.2gig
- hda1 - linux boot 1600mb
- hda2 - /usr/local 1100mb
- hda3 - /home 350mb
- hda4 - swap 128mb

hdd2: 20gb - ntfs (no os)
hdd3: 8gb - ntfs (no os)

any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi welcome to LinuxQuestions.org! As keefaz said it is an issue with lilo. Do a search on the forums of LI_ and you should get some help. Especially the threads "Trouble with Slack 9.0", "No boot Loader", and "getting LI at boot". If none of those help you post back here and we'll see what we can do. (Also post back here if it DID solve our problem as well.)

hi, thanks for the replies

i did a bit more searching, and the problem was that lilo had still been installed on the mbr after i formatted my redhat partitions

fdisk /mbr fixed it all, i can now enter the world of slackware :P
