system alarm on boot in slackware 10.0 but not win2000(dual boot)

Well I was stupid little monkey and updated with swaret with version set to current . killed alsa and httpd and a few other things. now I have the system alarm firing (it seems ) when alsa starts up(I could be wrong about it being alsa causing the problem but thats what I was working on at the time).

Have been unable to find any mention of this problem on linuxquestions or by googling. The alarm does not go off on windows boot.

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.
If you need any system details i'll put in some earplugs and boot slackware up :}

yes I ran alsaconf again last night and rebooted this morning plugged the system speaker back in and all is well.

I guess I forgot to run alsaconf again in all the confusion of trying to get httpd and my damned ati 9600 working for the tenth time ;}
