I haven't actually changed hardware before using linux. So now I have Geforce 2 and I'm switching to GeForce 3 ... Does Slackware 8.1 find the new GPU in boot? Do I only need to edit the X conf to change the amount of memory in my GPU or do I need to do something else too?
As far as linux is considered it doesn't care about your display adapter at all. X however might... But if you are going from one NVidia card to another then you should be fine as they all use the same driver.
As far as the memory questions goes, you can just leave out that information in your X configuration, it isn't really neccesary with your setup.
