swaret or slapt-get? or is YUM possible?
hi guys, one more question...i am looking for a package manager for my newly installed slackware....which one do you think is better? as i'm also totally newbie, i've one silly question.... we have some local networks of computer in our university with most of them running red hat linux....we need to access nodes, upload/download packages, take measurments etc. for our experiment.....is there any way i can use yum to install package on slackware? or can i use swaret/slapt-get for the purpose? i mean, will there be any compatibility issue??
i hope i'll get a quick answer, as its quite an urgent issue? Thanking you....

I won't comment on yum(since I don't like/use it for RH/Fedora either).
Slackware simply doesn't care as much about dependencies as others do (still; being rock solid, "if it works, it just works" ). You should indeed pick either slapt-get or swaret if you do want extra dependency checking. You also don't really need them to keep your system updated(manually updates tend to screw your system less than the auto tools).

Generally speaking, you can install an RPM on Slackware using the RPM tools that are included on CD 1, but that said, it is not supported, and not suggested.
You would be better off using rpm2tgz, and trying to install that way, but there is still no guarantees it will work.
