Swaret Configuration

Hey dudes!

Let's just say that I just got 9.0 working okay, and the hazzles of reinstaling 9.1 puts me on my nerves, hehehe. Besides, the ISO downloading is too slow.

Hence, I downloaded Swaret to update my 9.0 to 9.1. But I don't know what sites and URLs to put on /etc/swaret.conf. Can anyone give some URLs to put up there?

Has anyone been succesful at updating through Swaret?

Thanks!

Is that all I have to do in order to use Swaret, configure my swaret.conf file?

What if I have 9.1 burned to a couple of CDs and I want to upgrade using the CDs instead of through FTP? Can it be done?

basically, as well as edit the options below the mirrors if you want.

i guess you could just use pkgtool and upgrade from the CD if you wanted. the mirrors should always have the latest, though (if you use slackware-current/).

Can I do this from KDE or is it recommended that I be on a true natural terminal?

So do all those slackware-current folders have the latest and greatest version of Slack on them (9.1)?

OK, so I upgraded to Slack 9.1 using Swaret and everything seems fine (I have KDE 3.1.4, gcc 3.2.3, etc.) but I'm still running my custom 2.4.20 kernel and not the 2.4.22 kernel that is supposed to come with Slack 9.1. Is this normal? Do I have to manually download the 2.4.22 kernel source and compile it myself if I want the 2.4.22 kernel?

well about the kernel, you can download the source and compile it yourself , it's a good approach ...

I do believe that the kernel is ignored by default with swaret. Good thing. Also note that you can specify a file:// URL instead of the other ftp/http/rsync URLs.

With regard to picking sites, go the the mirror locations on the slackware site and pick mirrors "close" to you with good connection times. What works for one may not work for another.

Im having trouble with the swaret.conf file, i am using the same sources wich are in this topic, but the problem is that when i do swaret --update it only retrives files from the first FTP and leaves it so.. :/

it's only supposed to retrieve from the first one. if that one fails, it goes down the list to the next one. how many do you want it to use?
