Swap partition

I have an installed Slackware on my system, with the the following partitions

hda1 Primary Linux ext3 30501.28
hda2 Primary Linux swap 1006.39
hda3 Boot Primary NTFS 8507.85

This includes a Dual Boot with XP.

I have attempted to increase the size of the swap partition using cfdisk, to first delete the existing swap which was 500mb, after which I created the new swap.

The problem is that after saving the write to disk under cfdisk I recieve the following error>

///Wrote partition table, but re-read table failed. Reboot to update table.////

Upon reboot I have noticed that hda2 returns an error refusing hda2 as a swap file.

Is there any way of creating a Swap file other than using cfdisk...

You need to reformat the swap partition. (login as root)
mkswap /dev/hda2
To enable swap without rebooting
swapon /dev/hda2
