swap file, virtual memory

Is there any way to tell if the swap partition is actually working? I run various progs, then check System Monitor and it's never using any. I only have 1 GB of ram.

I apologize for all the posts lately, but slackware is a lot of fun and this is the easiest, best place to find info.

My system with one user with a gig of ram never uses the swap file either. You can display the used amount with the command 'free -m'. If swap is running, you should see the amount of free space on swap, and the total.

I guess you can try to force it to use swap by starting lots of apps, each one uses a few bytes up.
