SW net install cd?

Hi All,

I'm used to using debian and install with the netinstall cd which creates a minimal iso and then pulls the rest of the needed packages off of a mirror. Is there such a thing with slackware, or do I need to download multiple cds for install?

Thanks,

ab

Nope. You can get away with only using the first CD, but if you wanted to be safe, the first two discs contain the whole system. The third contains optional extras. The rest are source code.

Alternatively, you can download the DVD iso...

Hi,

You could download the iso(s) for install cd1 &install cd2 then use the network install locally. Or use the loop device to do the install without burning the images.

Slackware has several alternative install techniques. You could look at 'usb-and-pxe-installers' as a means to install.
The NFS install is another means to install. You would need to setup the NFS prior to the install.

You could look at the LQ post 'SlackwareŽ12_Janux_NET_NoBurn_Install' as another means to install.

There is a little installer CD (23 MB), forked from Tukani installer, which is able to install Slackware via net. You need a working internet connection and a CD-ROM drive to boot the iso. It is the original Slackware installer with the option to configure your network (static ip/dhcp) and to choose a FTP-mirror to install Slackware. The rest of the installation is the same as in Slackware.

Contact Manfred Mueller (mmueller at live-modules dot org) - no spaces, dot = .

He is the author of the installer CD, he will give you a download link. I installed about 20 machines with this installer and Slackware 12.0 without any problems!
