superblock check error on boot
 

I recently downloaded slack linux, it seems to have everyhting that i need.

Anyways, i got thru the install, reiserfs for my two partitions / and /home and of course a 128mb swap, with a full install, and lilo in the MBR of my hda

anyways, when booting, my pc goes untill the root filesystem check with e2fsck at which point it tells me that my superblock either is corrupted or does not contain an ext2 compatable filesystem

i ran badblocks (the read only test) and it claims my harddrive is fine, and i partitoned and formatted about 15 minuets from the first boot so i know that the filesystem isnt corrupted.
And i know reiserfs is on and properly installed

whats more, i can mount my partitions when booting from the cd, and they seem fine.

anyone know what is the problem?

here are my guesses:
a: reiserfs does not like e2fsck
b: e2fsck is corruped on the media disk somehow
c: my media disk is somehow corruped, even though i burnt at 1x
d: i have no idea what i'm talking about

does anyone know how to please e2fsck?


the funny thing is is that i have just installed slack on 2 different computers with 2 different harddrives and partritions and bios's and as such i am assuming that it is my install media. But just to make sure, does anyone know of another reason why e2fsck doesnt like me?

reiserfs partitions are not checked with e2fsck but with reiserfsck. The swap partition is ext2.Your root and home are reiserfs partitions. e2fsck is for ext2 and ext3. What kernel are you using and on what pc or lappy?

my kernel version is the default for the newsest slack: 2.4.31
i do intend to upgrade to the bleeding edge when i get this working though

both are pc's (633Mhz p3 and 233 Mhz p2)

i just recently started having the same problem.I have dual boot setup with windows. Windows is HDA1, swap HDA2, and Finally Linux HDA3. I tried the e2fsck hda3 but nothing came up. any ideas? Also how does this happen? i shut down my PC normally and it randomly came up.

It comes up not randomly but after specified amount of boots to check your drive for possible errors.
