I am not sure if this is the best place to make a request for an upgrade in Slackware current but here it is anyway :-). After almost a year of development John E. Davis has released slrn 0.9.9 and I would love to see this version in current. The surce code can be found at Sourceforge. The website has been rewritten: and a small but dedicated team has been working away at improving the documentation for this great newsreader.
And if anybody has read down this far I include the 'release' announcement of John E. Davis:
Quote:
I am pleased to announce the release of version 0.9.9 of the slrn
newsreader. The last official release of slrn was nearly four years
ago when 0.9.8 was made available. Since then there have been
numerous bug fixes and enhancements, particularly in the area of
multiple character set support. More information about the newsreader
can be found on its web page at <http://www.slrn.org/>. In
particular, <http://www.slrn.org/download.html> contains links to the
latest release as well as cutting edge development versions.
I would like to thank everyone involved in the slrn project, both past
and present, for contributing to the release. This especially
includes the former maintainer Thomas Schultz, who kept the project
moving forward during his tenure.
Enjoy,
--John
Hope I have I sold the idea to everybody, and especially PV :-).

Well I have sent a plaintive request off to info@slackware as well and hopefully the release version will spring up soon. Some great and very stable changes there.
