The shot may not be the best one to convey the idea of a stable version! ;)

Yes but not in the stable version (27). Opera 28 beta for both, has syncing of bookmarks.

But is it like chrome/firefox where I have to sync with someones cloud service or is it a real sync?

Opera controlled servers are used.

I'm a bit confused about the message. Is it?
A: Always ride a unicycle when wearing a Slackware t-shirt.
B: Always wear a Slackware t-shirt when riding a unicycle.

I've got the shirt, but I think I'd be safer on a tricycle.

Thats an old post, yes FF used to let you let you run your own sync server but they changed their sync system last year and they no longer support it. They still do support syncing and partly support your own sync server but you now have to have a FF account to use it so you can't use it without having their cloud account.
They changed it about the same time they ruined the UI.
