studying slackware packages

I'm not satisfied with SMS based on slack 13.37 nor need all the packages to be installed in slack 13.37 to run only samba and cups

I want to study what package does what and its dependencies

I found cooking up some slack but i don't see about packages. probably it's long topic

Is there any good place to start?

and ultimately making live slackware based cd.

for starter I tried to mount / as ro at fstab and it was mess.

The files in /var/log/packages include a package description. IDK about dependency information.

Configuring Slackware for a read-only root file system can be done but is not easy.

I remember someone posting a script that analyses dependencies of binaries and libraries and together with /var/log/packages builds an sql database of package dependencies. You may wanna search for that.

I wrote about that a long time ago. Probably quite outdated but you may draw some inspiration from it:

You may want to check out Salix, they have dependency checking apps too
and I have a Linux-Live that will create a livecd/usb from your slack/salix install

sooner or later there will also be slackware packages, but don't wait for them, cause of work and the move from one country to an other I have currently some time problems.
