Well done on sorting out your own problem alexisph!
As for your post with the output from the X.org.log file, I have to admit that I don't know what those errors mean - oh, and sorry I didn't post back sooner, some of us have to work
I think, from looking at it, the first error is X is reporting that there are no fonts that it can use in that particular folder; this isn't really a problem I don't think, as if you take a look in that folder path, you'll find that there are several other folders that also contain fonts.
As for starting up these services automatically, adding them to rc.local should do the job as this is called at the end of
/etc/rc.d/rc.M which is the script file that runs when Slackware starts up in one of the multi user run levels, and starting up to the gdm login screen is a multi user run level (run level 4 in Slackware).
As you can see,
/etc/rd.d/local.rc is called at the end of the startup script, so adding relevant commands to local.rc should do the job!
Code:
# Start the local setup procedure.
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.local ]; then
. /etc/rc.d/rc.local
fi
# All done.
Also, I think I'm right in saying that if you have a look, you'll find that by default, Slackware doesn't have/use an init.d file.
Good luck!
Steve
