Now, my personal opinion on gconf is that it's an abomination little better than MS Windows' Registry, however, as we have seen with the recent Firefox 3 topic, applications are starting to require gconf (and other parts of gnome) in order to work correctly. This is not a good thing.

My mind is split regarding GNOME.

On one side the Gnome.org host a vast number of small and usefull projects.

vs

On the other side, they grown to an attitude that seem to lack health and breeathes with some sik sort of 'elitism'.
They seem to be able to pull other connections instead of competence to acheeve gconf goes mainline (!?!) and to push healty projects (XFCE) aside.

May be M$ buys them off to endanger Apple? :-P like NOVEL did SUSE?
