Strange keyboard issues...

This now is the second time this has begun happening to me, and now I'm convinced it's a simple setting I must have changed, BUT, I'm here because clearly I can't figure it out...
After installing Slackware 13 64bit and doing a little work here and there, I shut the computer down and come back to it a day later and the keyboard no longer responds... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm able to control my Lilo but once it gets to login, game over.

Well, come to find out, it simply had something to do with the fact that I had a USB mouse plugged in. Solution: Unplug the mouse on boot, keyboard worked fine, logged in, startx, plug mouse back in, no issues...
Can anybody maybe explain why this was a problem? I was able to boot just fine with the mouse plugged in numerous times prior...
