Strange error while connecting to w2k through samba
Hey all,
for the last year or so I've been logging into a w2k box to make a daily backup of my laptop (rsync rules!). Now I have moved to a different office and created the same setup. Initially this worked flawless, however, all of a sudden I can't connect to the win box anymore, and get the following error message:
Code:
bash-3.00# mount -t smbfs -o username=leobro //NEWTON-MC/LEON /mnt/newton-mc/
18571: session request to NEWTON-MC failed (Called name present, but insufficient resources)
18571: session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name present, but insufficient resources)
SMB connection failed
bash-3.00#
I have googled and searched this forum, which gave me only one report of the same error without explanation or solution.
Does anyone have a clue what's wrong here? On which site could the mishap be? All hints very much appreciated!
Thanks. I figured it must indeed be a problem with the win box, because I can still connect to other w2k pc's. Hmmm, so now I need the sysadmin to help me...

Possibly... anyway, it's definitely not my win pc, I merely (ab)use it here in the office to make daily backups of my laptop. With rsync it takes less then a minute with minimum load, and since it's run as a crontab I don't even have to think of it. I love it!
Which I can HIGHLY recommend to everyone. Make backups, make backups and make backups! I know this is said often, but I also know that few people actually do so. Some weeks ago my previous laptop all of a sudden died and it was such a relief to know that I had everything safely backed up! Now the only thought was: finally a proper reason to buy that T41!
