stoping a module


i need to stop a module, specificly that is ipv6. how?

modprobe -r <name>

Do a lsmod and look which modules are using ipv6. The ipv6 modulename is specified in the used by column. Unload those modules first, then try again.

And when you stop all network devices ? It is probably in use by loopback (127.0.0.1) and your ethernet devices.

If you have unloadable kernel modules enabled in your kernel you can also use the rmmod command.

wouldnt rmmod remove it? or just stop it?

it would take the module out of memory, since it's no longer in memory it would be stopped.
