Still Probems With SW Root Disks
A while ago I posted that the SW root disks wouldn't load, we came to the conclusiont at it was my floppy drive. I have installed a different floppy into my comp but it does the exact same problem, after Root disk 5 it says it is freeing kernel memory...104k freed then hangs up. This is really starting to get frustrating

k, got some new floppies, but now it says that there is an error and to pass the init= command to the kernel. WHat is this and how do I do it?
|
k, I really need help...this is stopping me form doing anything with Linux :(
|
You not only need root disk but also boot disk.
First use the boot disk, that will prompt you for the rootdisk ! Read info on CD ! |
k, I booted up using the 8.1 boot disks, then I inserted root disks 1-4 when it prompts me. Then it says that the kernel paniced and I should use the init= option, which I have no idea about
|
Beats me, are you sure you need 4 rootdisks ?
I remember with older versions slack, that 1 was enough if you had the right one. The 4 different types were for different hardware configs/cpu's. |
yeah, got it working...turned out my Boot Disk was knackered. Now im on to how to partition correctly, i'll try and figure it out on my own before asking around. Thanks for your help anyways:)
